Metallic Deer from Michael's

tawk of the day:: "John 3:16~ For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten son.. That whoever believeth in Him, shall not perish, but have ETERNAL life." ... Everyone should know this verse by heart and keep it close to their heart..

I went to Michael's yesterday afternoon and I was planning on using my 40% off coupon..
I was planning on buying one of their Metallic paper mache Reindeer they had and brought it up to the register to find out they were half off!!! [score]
They were originally 8.99 each!
So since they were on clearance, I couldn't use my coupon so I went back and grabbed the other reindeer, also!
So I got 2 for the price of one~ Here they are::

This is my Christmas Mantel almost finished!! .

I didn't really know exactly where I wanted to put them, so I just sat them up on the fireplace mantel!..
I thought they were a little 'too much' up on the mantel so....

I decided to place them at the bottom instead...
What do ya think?..
***
I still am planning on putting something inside the frame to take up the space... but do not know yet what I wanna do! .. [still thinking]..

Christmas Mantel Frame

tawk of the day:: "People are always gonna talk, so you may as well give 'em something good to talk about.."

This is the start of my Christmas Mantel!
***So I figured I'd post pictures of my journey to it :)**

I got this frame for *Free*..
On my way to and from Church this was left on the side of the road...
I made my husband drive back with me to pick it up!!

First I primed :)

Then I spray painted this "Banner Red" in Krylon
(it's like my new fav. color)

Last, but not least, I glazed to make it look 'older'
*OLD IS THE NEW 'NEW' .. Didn't you know that?*

Now I'm off to Michael's to use my 40% off coupons to finish the look of it...

Drab Owl.. to Fab Owl :)

Tawk of the day:: "Preach the gospel.. When necessary, use words!!" xox

I bought this drabbish owl at the local Goodwill for 1.99
I have been getting into owls and thankfully I stumbled upon this one :)
I didn't like how he looked so I took him home and applied a fresh coat of primer and white spray paint.
After that dried, I whipped out my Behr glaze in black tint and perdy brush and went to town with it!
This was the before and the outcome of it all :)
I'm happy* with it, are you??.. He now sits upon my armoire in the bedroom.

Here is mine! ::

Learn to make your own, ...

Grab an old raggy t shirt and a large dinner size plate.

Trace the plate onto the shirt, cut it out.

Now that you have your circle cut out, mark the middle with a sharpie so you know where to start the flower. .. [an easy way to find the middle without using tape measure... fold the circle in half, then in half again..]
This circle is going to be the backing of your flower!

Now get your fabric you want the flower made out of and cut a very long strip..
Knot the end of the fabric (this will be the center of the flower)

Cut the excess fabric so you have JUST the knot.

Hot glue the knot to the DOT in the circle.

After that is dry, start turning your fabric AWAY from the knot as you are turning the circle counter clock ways.
Glue as you go so you don't lose its shape & so it stays put!  I pretty much did so much & glued.. then i went back and glued the rest between each glue.. (yeaa that sounds pretty confusing, but you'll see what i mean..)

This is my Rolled Fabric Flower after I ran out of my first piece of fabric..

Just kind of twist the new piece of fabric at the ends (don't knot again), and glue where you left off with the last piece.

Okay.. after you have the circle completed..
See all the extra white from the shirt?.. CUT IT OFF CAREFULLY so only the flower is showing.

Now flip the flower over and hot glue the edges (not too much)
[I kind of glued a dab and smeared it along the edges... smear it with the gun, NOT YOUR FINGER.. lol]

This is my pillow.. I was going to hot glue it so i covered the light blue square completely, but the flower wasn't big enough! :( .. So I just flipped the pillow over and glued it smack dab in the center.

This is such an easy craft to do.
It brings life to a very boring pillow!

My husband says it looks like a nest..
So either way it looks pretty :)
I have another pillow just like this so I might either do the exact same thing to it, or do a bunch of little flowers.. not sure yet.. if it's different, I'll post pictures!! :)

Wall Decal from wall to slate.

Tawk of the day:: "I've learned that pleasing everyone is damn near impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake... "

Okay, so as most of you know I am a new mum =]
I recently was putting up one of those vinyl wall decals (from my mum) in the nursery..

Only one problem, the walls are a pale yellow and so were the letters!! (I thought they were white)..

Bummer :(
I really liked this & thought it'd be a shame to just leave it on the wall where NOBODY would even tell it was there..
& an even BIGGER shame to just peal it off and throw it in the trash..
So in my brilliant thinking, I pealed it off (Very carefully with the tip of a safety pin!) and put it on wax paper until I figured out what I was going to do with the letters..

Then I remembered I had 2 large pieces of slate from my parents house in my entry room closet just sitting, collecting dust because I saving them for painting purposes.. but never got around to painting them... UNTIL NOW!
I took one piece outside and chipped away about half of the slate because it'd be way too heavy and bigger than needed for the decal saying..

I then, transferred the letters onto the slate (took me about 7 times of placing the letters, then pealing them back off because I can't judge spacing and so forth with my eyes.. lol..)

I took out my stash of RUSTOLEUM spray paint in HEIRLOOM WHITE.
Sprayed over all the letters..

Let sit until the paint dries. Then carefully peal away letters.. (I used a tip of a safety pin)
Then just dispose of the letters (in a way- it's like you never threw the letters away after all.. =]

Final part is a little sanding to blend the letters in the slate.
And sanding the edges of the slate to give it a 'worn' look.

I absolutely LOVE the way this turned out & would actually consider buying another decal for the other piece of slate I have and doing the same thing with it.
With decals on items such as the slate, they would make perfect gifts because most people don't know, or don't have any place on their walls for decals =]
