'Chicken Scratch' boards

TAWK of the day // "If it's important to you, you'll find a way.. and if not, you'll find an excuse."

chicken scratch boards..

Here is what you need:
~Picture Frame (Empty)
~Chicken Wire
~Clothes pins
~Paint/Glaze
~Hot Glue Gun
~1 piece of scrap book paper
~Mod Podge

So today, me and the little one walked into the thrift store for a frame to make a chicken wire memo board..
& we found the perfect one.. but it didn't have a price tag :(
(normally if it ain't tagged, then they won't sell it..) .. but the nice guy said he'd go get me a price tag!

for $2.49.. I wish they had more of this frame..

I took it home, put the little one down for a nap, and immediately got to work!

I took out all the staples and glass and picture..

Next, I cut out a piece of chicken wire to fit the inside of the picture (where the picture itself would go.
-it looks better and neater)..

I took the piece of oval cardboard from the frame and lathered it up with mod podge..
I cut out a piece of scrap paper that would fit, and placed it on like so...
(the chicken wire will be covered this way, preventing scratches to the wall or worse, yourself!)

I took the frame outside (since it's over 50 degrees here) and decided to spray paint this one..
After a few coats and minutes drying in between, I brought it inside to finish it.

After looking at the frame, I decided to antique it, by glazing it with Behr's glaze tinted flat black.
It looks better, don't you agree? :)

I took hot glue and placed it going around the chicken wire & immediately stuck the now fancy looking cardboard background over the wire!..

Last, but not least, add some mini pins!!

.. Here are a couple that I have made before..

Don't be a 'Chicken'... and go make one!!

Addicted to 'Family Rules' ..

'TAWK' of the day:  Obsessed is a word the lazy use to describe the dedicated."

Soo.. If you have been checking out my blog, you have probably seen
my framed 'Family Rules'..

I have gotten so many 'loves' within my family that I decided to make my aunt one and my grandparents one..
I do not like making the exact same craft over again so I changed up some of the quotes on each of them & painted the frames different...but used the same paper, cause I had leftovers :)
Check them out, hope you like them :)

Are you addicted to any specific craft?!

Next to nothing Elegant Shade!

tawk of the day .. What's your greatest thrift store find? .. I'd prolly have to say mine would be this really cool vintage style frame.. It is of plastic, but looks like real wood.. It's awesome..

So today, my friend Lisa and I took a trip to good ole' Gabriel Brothers.. I was so excited to find out that my $15.00 pack of 2 curtains I had picked out rang up $3.00! .. and my $5.00 fleece throw rang up $3.00! .. Talk about a steal!!
Then we made a trip down to Goodwill on our way home where I came across a $3.99 lamp!
{score} ..
I brought it home and grabbed an old lampshade I had stored in my craft closet..

Meet my plain jane white lampshade::

I put it on my *new* old lampstand.. It looked perfect with the stand, but the shade was just bland..
It needed something!

So I came up with this::

I absolutely love how it turned out!
It's the first thing I notice when I enter the living room!

All you need is a hot glue gun and some thin fabric..
I cut my fabric in long strips and grabbed the middle string of the fabric strip.
I kept scrunching it until I reached the end of the strip.

Next I hot glued the ruffles on the 'lines' that were already on the lampshade..
Then I made a couple strips for the diameter around the top and bottom of the lampshade..
A couple good glue burns later..

Making your own "KEEP CALM and CARRY ON" canvas..

tawk of the day :: "BE THE CHANGE YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD.."

I'm assuming everyone has seen the "Keep Calm and Carry On" signs, right?
Well, instead of spending $$  for one online somewhere.. I decided to make my own with just a few items I had laying around the house

Here is what you will need to complete this craft:
Canvas
Felt
Mod Podge
Scrap Book Paper
Computer Printer
Picnik.com <3
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun
Glaze
Foam brush

First, with picnik.com, I got into the 'make collage' page..
proportioned the collage pretty wide and gave it a white background.
(you do not add pictures.. Click done when finished.)
This will be you blank piece you will be working on.
Add text and save to your files..
after you print from your files. go back to picnik.com and click 'continue editing'..
(this way you do not have to start everything over all the time with the collage stuff)

(Also, I saved a picture of a keep calm picture so i could have the 'crown' on top of mine)
I cropped the picture in picnik.com!
Boy when picnik.com leaves for good, i'm gonna be one sad girl!!

Next cut out each word(s) and place them on the carpet just to get a feel of how much space you have to work with and how 'scrunched' it has to be to fit on your canvas.

I used just a plain canvas I got at a PENS game (they were handing them out before the game).. well.. the little one got ahold of it.. slobbered all over it and the colors ran...
so yeaaa, i love my pens, but it was ruined so I just wet it completely and washed off ALL the color (mostly!)

After that.. MOD PODGE everything! ..
(I was kind of bummed that the paper all crinkled.. but I guess that is what gives it some character!)

After that dries completely, cut some felt in strips to fit the edges.. and hot glue them on it.

Last step--Lather up some black glaze on top to give it a Rustic old look!
(it's actually prolly be easier to do this before the felt, but it's okay)

And lastly, DISPLAY your creation!

Happy Crafting to 'youns' ..
& remember, with GOD all crafts are possible ;)

                                 The hour I first believed."
