Bedroom Makeover

Tis the season to be cleaning.. .Fa la la la la la la la la...
I re did my sons 'future' bedroom!
So if you do not have the extra cash (like myself) to redo a bedroom,
maybe you'll see just how easy and inexpensive it is to transform the look
of a bedroom!!
Less $$ and more of your time put into it.

This bedroom will eventually be our son's when that time comes to have another baby.
So I wanted to keep it boy-ish..  I wanted to make a statement on one wall..
I added light blue/tan stripes on the wall the bed would be up against.
I probably won't ever do stripes on any other wall in my house because it was just a pain in the butt.

Before posting these 'after' pictures I wanted to make a headboard out of old shutters..
But I didn't happen to find any on craigslist or thrifting or sales.. bummer!

I repainted all the walls TAN..
I had some left over adhesive paper from my pantry makeover..
I decided to redo this long dresser instead of painting it.. I figured I'd spend wayyyy less time..
I added a table runner across the dresser to 'dress' it up!
That barn star to the right WAS a dark maroon, but I decided to repaint it the same blue as the stripes and sand it down to 'distress' it.. I LOVE how this turned out.

The closet was a tough decision.. It is very old and out of date.
(think.. not tons of $$$)
My mom came up with the idea of putting chalkboard paint on one side..
FANTASTIC idea!
I am planning on putting magnetic paint on the other door.
See that canvas painting thing on the left?
Yeaa.. this is what it used to look like:
Sorry, it's a very bad and blurry picture, but it's all I had! ..
This is what it looks like close up all finished:
I borrowed a friend's cricut expression and made the letter decals..
I LOVE this! and I LOVE that cricut.. (I may just have to buy myself one ;)
I used the adhesive from the dresser on the words.. Home Runs and Games..
Isn't it great?..

More photos from the room:

I made that 'empty' picture frame out of a yard stick! ..

Gritty Sculpted cardboard 'J'

Tawk of the day:: .. For a little scary piece of information I had learned last night from a friend going to school to be a Pastor: When the world ends, only an estimated 144,000 people (remaining on earth) will enter the pearly gates of Heaven.. .. Gets you thinking if you're really living according to the Bible, doesn't it?

.......................but moving on..  Today I have an easy project for y'all to try out! Wanna learn how to make this :

It looks as if I would have bought this at a lawn ornament place or something of the matter.
This is actually one of these guys:

Large Cardboard 'J' from Joann Fabric
Originally 3.99.. but on sale for a $1 off..

All you need is :
a paper towel-
small paint brush-
and these:

(Weathered Iron..This stuff is so neat! .. It was introduced to me from my mom..
It is very gritty so when it dries it looks as if it is rusty and something you'd see in the flower gardens  of friends.)

(Maroon, Burnt Orange and Dark Brown craft paint.)

First, take your Weathered Iron and paint it all over the J.
It's hard to see the grittiness to it, so you'll just have to try it for yourself!!

Next with your 3 colored paints dab a paper towel in them and dab your letter.
This adds to the rustyness.

After that, add more of the weathered iron on top, just by dabbing in spots with the paint brush.
then dab again with a clean side of the paper towel.

NEXT, SHOW IT OFFFFF :)
THIS MAKES A GREAT STATEMENT IN MY SON'S FUTURE BEDROOM!

Fancy up an old Dresser without the paint!

Tawk of the day // "Every Breath, Every Moment.. CELEBRATE!!"

Do you have an old dresser that needs a little pick-me-up, but you don't want to have to take the time-out to re-sand, & re-paint? ..
Well that was kind of the case with me.. Having to deal with an 8 month crawling (on the verge of walking) around
Not to mention that my dresser is about 43857345 times my weight!
Here is my dresser before:
This is ONE of the dressers in our spare room/future children's bedroom..
I didn't want to take time to paint it and all that happy, fun stuff. So I had another idea in mind..
Remember that shelf protector adhesive I used for my pantry makeover?...
Well... I had so much of it leftover that I was racking my brain about what else I could use it for! ...

Now for the FUNNN After pictures::::
I used it for detailing my OLD SPARE ROOM DRESSER!..

AFTER MEASURING AND MEASURING..
AND TRIMMING AND TRIMMING..
TO FINALLY GET THE ADHESIVE THE EXACT SHAPE..

I UNSCREWED THE BOTTOM TWO DRAWER HANDLES TO GET THE ADHESIVE ON..

I ADDED SOME ADHESIVE TO THE MIRRORS AS WELL TO FANCY IT UP A BIT TOO!

I ABSOLUTELY AM AMAZED AT HOW GREAT THIS STUFF LOOKS..
SURE, IT MAY NOT LAST FOREVER, BEINGS IT'S ONLY ADHESIVE CONTACT PAPER, BUT I STILL LOVE IT.

(for the handles.. you can spruce it up a little more girly with fun ribbon!)

HOPE YOU ALL ENJOYED THIS PROJECT!!
IT LOOKS FANCY AND TIME CONSUMING, BUT IT'S NOT AT ALL!!

Diaper boxes turned STORAGE boxes!

Tawk of the day: // "Peace is not the absence of trouble, but the presence of Christ." -Sheila Walsh

Hi everyone :)

So I'm sure many of you have seen these lovely Storage Bins, all over *Pinterest*

I am a new mother to a handsome 8 month old and I've thrown out plenty of these..

I seen these on pinterest about a month ago, and decided that I could *always* use space savers like these that I could actually set out for people to see because they are so darn cute..

I have a pretty small home and a TON of Movie's that I need to organize and put out of sight because the living room just looks neater without dvd's everywhere!

I decided to store them in the hallway closet..

Here are my two Diaper storage bins..

I simply followed the tutorial from Amy @ Positively Splendid

I followed this tutorial to make the storage bin liners!
..instead of having a drawstring, I just hemmed the bottoms and poked 2 holes to weave ribbon in to make a pretty little bow! ..

Hope youns save your diaper boxes from now on && save some money by making your own storage bins instead of buying expensive baskets!!

Pantry Makeover..

tawk of the day:
Dear God,
why do you allow so much violence in our school?
signed-concerned student.
Dear concerned student,
I'm not allowed in schools..,
God.

This saddens me greatly..

Hello, everybody:)
So lately I have been looking up 'pantry makeovers' on pinterest..

Pantry Makeover

This is from House of Smiths.. #1 FAV.

This one was my inspiration to get mine looking fab.. and as you can see, it's not fab at all..
It is pretty spacious, and I haven't changed it a bit since we bought the house a couple years ago.
I wanted to spice it up a bit, making it a lot more presentable!
Here it is..
I forgot to take a 'before' pic with all my junk in it still, I just got too caught up in the moment..
So here it is empty.. and all my crap on the floor..

Down the road we plan to expand our kitchen/dining room so I knew I wasn't going to be spending a ton of money on this rinky dink pantry so I went the cheapest rt. possible!
It literally was just over 6$ ..

I immediately got started! .. I decided to go with a grayish color
(The paint was 'free', handed down from my aunt!)
After a couple days worth of 'mommy time' while 'j' was sleeping.. I got it painted..

It still looks a little plain.. but I figured it was just because my crap wasn't loaded back into it.
I decided to then get into my craft closet to find something else for it..
I found some scrap pieces of white and tan burlap
I cut them into equal strips and placed them onto the last 4 shelves...

I grabbed a little wooden crate thing I had laying around and placed my baking supplies in that..
I also had some glass canisters I got from my mom laying around in the basement waiting for a great DIY moment..
I bought chalkboard paint at JoAnn Fabrics and painted it onto the canisters..
I then, obviously, bought chalk and wrote what I was going to store in them.
Great little containers and storage bins are excellent to have for any pantry makeover.
O.R.G.A.N.I.Z.A.T.I.O.N. is key..
(pretend the background isn't up yet!)

It [STILL] needed something!!

I was strolling along in T.J.Maxx today and found some shelf protection adhesive sticker things..
I knew I wasn't using them for the shelves themselves, but I had something else in mind...
Here is what I was thinking....

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT!
YOU DON'T NEED TO SPEND TONSSSS OF MONEYYY TO HAVE SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL!!
IT ONLY TOOK ME $7.00 :)

BESIDES, MY PANTRY HAS A DOOR.. SO IT'S NOT LIKE EVERYBODY WILL SEE IT ANYWAYS..

NOW GO BUY SOME SHELF PROTECTERS AND MAKE A WALL PRETTY :)
