Bathroom Window Pane & Banner

Tawk of the day:
"It's Monday, ... need I say more?!"

Hi all :)

Today I will show you how I revamped an old 3 pane window that I received from my good friend.  She lives in an old farm house so she has tons of these stored away in her attic! {score!}
I had in mind that I wanted to hang this on the wall somewhere in my house, but didn't realize how freaking heavy these suckers were!
Well, we are actually planning on redoing our one bathroom wall, so I thought this window would look perfect above the toilet when I fix her all up!

Here is the grungy looking window before I laid my hands on it:

I decided to paint my window a greenish color, since my bathroom is in green and pink.
( I did a couple coats )
I do not have the color on hand, but I do know it's S.W. If you'd like to know the name, please leave me a comment, and I'll be sure to get it to you! ;)

My bathroom is all done up in a 'le jardin' paris theme, so with my friend's cricut machine, I cut out the words Le Jardin and placed it right onto the window..

I thought about mod podging  some photos behind the windows of family and friends, but I knew that someday down the road I'd probably get sick of looking at this decor in the bathroom and want to switch it out some time... so I could probably resell it at a craft show or what not..
So I thought about mod podging some gift tissue wrap paper instead! .. This plan sounded genius to me.

This is the window with tissue paper all dried..
What do YOU think of this idea?.. It's definitely different, but I think I like it..

I wanted something for the middle of the window, either a wreath or a homemade banner..
I chose the banner. I have enough wreaths in my home!

 For the banner I used:
Mini Clothes pins
String
Scrap book paper (left overs from my 'family rules' tutorial)
old material (an old pillow case)
Scrap book scissors with wavy edges..
and regular scissors
***
I traced out circles with bowls and cups for the scrap book paper and material..
Cut the material out w/ regular scissors
& the scrap book paper with wavy scissors..
Folded all of my circles in half, putting the material inside the scrap book paper.
(I made 5 of these)
Then cut desired length of string to hang them on..
put the string inside the material part of the banner..
then attach them all with clothespins onto the string!!
That's about it, super easy, and super cute!!

This is just a close up of the handmade banner that I made..

'Nonna' Wreath

Tawk of the day:
"Be kind to everyone you meet.. They're all fighting a battle you know nothing about!"

Hi all:) Today I will be showing you a cute little wreath..
So if you're interested, keep scrolling! :)

The wreath tutorial I am going to show today is actually a 'Copy-Cat' to the NONNA WREATH found @ JonesDesignCompany.com
Instead of wool like she used, I will be using felt because I have some left over here and don't feel like buying craft stuff I do not need to! :)
You will need:
ANY wreath like this or a styrofoam one.
Spray paint (cause I sprayed mine the same color of felt I used!)
Felt .. (or wool)
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun
Since I was using felt for this wreath, I spray painted my wreath black so if any wreath showed through the felt you wouldn't really be able to tell!! ;)
Not exactly sure the lengths of these felt strips, prolly 3/4 inch wide and 60 inches long.. and I used 5 of this for this little wreath! I guess it just all depends on how much bunching and scrunching you do!
Just a close up of how I was doing this.. It may not be the exact same way as JonesDesignCompany, but it worked for me!! :)

ALMOST DONE!! keep bunching, scrunching, and hot gluing!!

(The only reason the unpainted part of the wreath is showing is because it's reflecting in the mirror!.. I couldn't really get a dead on picture of this wreath cause the flash made a big mark on it)

The little flower you see on this wreath can also be found at JonesDesignCompany.com as well!!
Under the tutorial, 'Flower pin.'

Thanks for stopping by the JHOUSE!

Chicken Wire Photo Display Frame

tawk of the day:  "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter!" Dr. Seuss.

Chicken wire....
It's everywhere!
I had a bunch left over sitting in my basement along with empty frames..
So I grabbed the biggest frame there was and figured out where I would put it..
I had the perfect spot! in my kitchen where people would pass it as they went out the kitchen.

First I spray painted it in Rustoleum, Heirloom White.
Then after a couple coats of that I let it dry.. Then I brought it in the basement to cut a piece of Chicken Wire to JUST fit the backside of the frame where the glass would be going..
** I took that piece of chicken wire outside and sprayed it black.
I didn't want the chicken wire to be silver.. I wanted to add some 'country' to it.
 After that dried..
I brought both the frame and wire into the house and immediately go to hot glueing!
** I flipped the frame over and placed the chicken wire where I wanted it and started hot glueing ALL the sharp ends of where I cut! .. (This will take away scratching on your walls as you figure out where you would like to place it, and keeps from slicing you!!
After I got allll my hot glueing done, I didn't add anything else to the back.. That's pretty much it.
Now just flip over after glue dries and add your pictures you'd like to display with mini clothes pins!
I made sure to let some Chicken Wire peak through, beings that is the AWESOME part of this project!!

This frame totally changes the whole look of my kitchen!
It looks as if it were time consuming, but really this only took a matter of about 30 minutes!! from start to finish.
WOAH!

HAPPY CRAFTING*

Simple Shutters to fancy up a kitchen window

Simple Shutters to fancy up a kitchen window..
Want to see what I'm talking about?.. Keep reading then to see what I did!!

When we moved into this house, what you see in the above picture is one of the things that was left with it..
Yeaa, not too pretty at all.. the green inside part is falling apart, old, and ugly.. but the shutters..

These puppies look as if they can be fixed up to look cute/shabby chic..  HMMM..

With a dry brush, I just brushed on some off white paint I had in the basement..
That's it.. That's all it needed for the look I was approaching.

Close up of it.. No top coat or sanding needed for me!!!

This is my kitchen window that needs something added to it..
It's kinda plain, not unique in the least..
sooooo.....

This is what I had in mind..
A touch of shabby-ness..
PERFECT! I love how it looks!

No hammering in place needed.. These babies sit cute and still all on their own!!

So if you decide you do not want them anymore, they won't leave any marks!

Whatcha think!?!
I like them :)

An Original Photo Display'r ..

jhouseTAWK of the day: "be kind to everyone you meet.. you don't know what kind of battle they're fighting."
~this SHOULD be a common sense kind of phrase, but we are ALL at fault sometimes when meeting people.. we should not be so judge-mental!  Easier said than done-

A friend of mine and I recently have been doing a lot of crafting.  The last time we had 'craft day' which exceeded all the day and night, she brought over a full bag of empty frames..
If you haven't figured it out yet,  I ADORE EMPTY frames!!
Especially the vintage-y kind, the OLDER the BETTER!
Well last evening I pulled out this frame from the bag,

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with it yet, so I just painted it in the meanwhile,

I skipped the primer and painted it RUSTOLEUM aqua..
I got this from JoAnn fabric for .97!! ..
(yes that is not a typo.. they said they are discontinuing it.)
{SCORE}
---
I then knew by that time it was dry what I wanted to do with the frame... It was either a chicken wire memo board, or a picture displayer..
I chose the picture displayer (I know, you're prolly thinking, what are you gonna do to make it a picture displayer, right?!)

I simply thumb-tacked an end of string to the top right corner of the frame (on the back) and started wrapping it around the frame, going down the frame, then up the frame.. a couple times til I ended up where I started.. I then thumb-tacked the end string to the top left corner of the frame (back) ..

*Just a close up from the front side so you can see what it looks like!

I like the idea of these because it is SO EASY to just switch out the display pictures on this instead of a collage picture frame itself.
AND it just looks more creative and fancy!!
I love a HOME MADE look

HOPE YA LIKED IT!!

Welcome sign REpurpose

See this little guy, in the picture below?..

Well, he actually came with the house!
It wasn't til this spring that I decided he needed a little makeover!
Get a good look at him now.. Cause he's going away forever!!

Here he is now, all sanded, painted, and showing off!

THIS IS SOMETHING EVERYONE CAN DO!!!

I repainted this guy a green first...
Cause that's the color I wanted my letters to be.

With the cricut machine, cut out your letters and place them where you would like them to be on your master piece..  After a million sticking, and resticking, I finally got them where I wanted them to appear!!

NOW, repaint this a color you'd like the background to be!

Now after you let dry for as long as needed.. and then peel off the letters!
Stand in awe as you gaze over your newly polished outside decoration!

Sanding is key to getting this looking awesome!
Sand all the edges of the letters to make it look worn and make it blend in with the rest of the color.

Sand the edges of the birdhouse/etc.. to give it a weathered look!!

Now put any kind of top coat on him!

I LOVE how this turned out!
I LOVE the oldness to it!
I LOVE how it looks as I pull in to the driveway!

What do you think?!

"every little thing is gonna be alright."

I came across this handmade sign out of a piece of scrap wood,
I really liked this piece and wanted to make something of the sort, but wasn't [too] thrilled with the saying.. I mean, it's a great thing to instill in your children and it's a great song.. but not for me!
I then searched and searched for another quote on Pinterest & Google images with the sayings "Religious quotes" "Quotes" "DIY signs" .. then I found this:
I loved the saying.. Every one complains about the littlest things in life while they're people out in the world fighting for their life or going through tough times, ... And you're complaining over spoiled milk? Really?  I lost my grandma a year ago to lung cancer and ever since then I realized more that life is precious.  We ALL need this saying SOMEWHERE in our homes.
:)
HERE IS MY HOMEMADE SIGN::

These are the supplies you will need for this:
1.  Piece of scrap board.
2.  Paint
3.  Paint brush
4.  Foam brush
5.  Stain/Poly mix (whatever finish you prefer!.. I used Oak)
6.  Sander
7.  Cricut expression
8.  Decal sheet (I used leftover contact paper.. Hey! it works!)
9.  Scissors
10.  Hammer
11. Something to put on the back to hang on the wall..

(Sorry, I have no step by step photos for this, but it is pretty easy to understand... Just KEEP READING!!)

1.  Sand over your scrap piece of wood.
2.  Paint a color on your board for the background color, I painted mine a whitish beige.
3.  With your cricut cut out your quote/saying for your board.
3.  Poke out the letters from the decal paper and use the backgound only. (BE SURE TO SAVE THE 'FILLING' FOR THE o's, a's, e's, p's. .. ETC.)
4.  Place the "saying" where you'd like it to appear on your sign..
5.  Using a foam brush, dip it in the paint you want your words to appear in.. Do not use too much paint.. I dabbed it several times onto a piece of cardboard until there wasn't much paint on my brush.
6.  Let dry for a few hours.. Now take your decal off (remember the centers of the e's a's p's.. etc.) Start sanding once again! get all the edges to give it a 'distressed' look and go over the quote/saying to soften the edges.  I went around the edges pretty good cause I wanted my sign to look OLD.
7.  Coat one time with Stain/Poly.  Let dry over night!
